It was a hot day in July 2007…And I was rushing.
I wanted to get home. To breathe. To be still. To sleep.
I rounded the corner to my home, decreased my speed and parked.

And then…I saw him sitting on my front porch.

My exhaustion turned to joy… But what was going on?
He was in a suit jacket.
What was he doing at my house?
Why was he dressed up?
I had just left him not more than 25 minutes ago–and when we parted ways, he was casually dressed and headed home…30 miles in the opposite direction.

I slowly walked to my front door. “How did you beat me here? Why are you here?” I asked.
Without a word, he grabbed my hand and led me inside my home and suddenly I heard several voices yell, “Surprise!” I looked around my dining room and realized that the voices belonged to many of my closest friends and family members. They were holding candles.  And suddenly I knew…today was the day! Kwabs was proposing.

It was one of the happiest days of my life and I still smile as I remember the emotions I felt as he got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. At the time I had no idea what the future would hold. I didn’t know that almost 8 years later we would be parents to two amazing little boys, Max and Myles. I also didn’t think that I would still be searching for a creative outlet that I am passionate about: I thought I would have my life totally figured out by now. I was so naïve.

This weekend, Kwabs and I have been invited to another wedding. Every time I attend the nuptials of another happy couple, I think back to July 2007 and our January 2008 wedding and smile. I absolutely love weddings! I love the ceremony, the food, the dancing, and of course…the wedding dresses! It’s always fun to see which dress the bride chose and ultimately said yes to. This week I was inspired to let my creative juices flow and make my own dress for the wedding. Although I initially worried that I was in over my head, after completing two lessons with my sewing instructors I was able to finish it. What do you think?!

    1. Thanks Lisa! I needed a creative outlet because my job is so stressful. I decided to start sewing and then someone suggested blogging about the experience and the rest is history. I am really enjoying it so far. Please subscribe!

  3. I simply love weddings! Your story is so amazing. It’s nice that your husband went to so much trouble. Shows how much he loves you. I can’t wait to attend weddings, I haven’t had a lot of invitations other than my own. Lol. I love your dress!
